“We have now sunk to a depth at which the restatement of the obvious is the first duty of intelligent men.” George Orwell,
Outraged by mainstream media, I have turned off the television and turned instead to less propagandistic news coverage of the Israel-Hezbollah conflict; or more accurately, a view of Israeli atrocities in Lebanon, which are grossly undue and appalling and illegal. I write this, my newest blog, riled and dismayed by what is happening to Lebanon.
It is not so much an Israel-Hezbollah conflict, in spite of what is being endorsed by American corporate television, as it is an attempt by Israel to utterly destroy Lebanon and its people. We are at the 7th day of combat and Israel has largely wiped out Lebanese civilian infrastructure (including its airport), displaced about 900,000, and has killed 215–most of whom were civilians. On the other end, CNN is showing, virtually non-stop, Hezbollah rockets targeting the Israeli city of Haifa: roughly 30 people have died from these attacks.
Meanwhile, the Bush administration is positioning itself for war with Syria and Iran should either country choose to support Hezbollah militarily. Aggression against these countries has long been in the cards for Bush and his Neocons—Afghanistan and Iraq mark the beginning of a long quest for supremacy over the Middle East.
In other words, it is a time of great tragedy and tyranny.
In Solidarity will offer coverage and analysis of the ongoing Israeli invasion and destruction of Lebanon; exposure that does not dismiss or marginalize Lebanese suffering in the cloud of fighting terror, as if Israel is not committing terrorist acts as it devastates much of the country.
